New York City is an enjoyable but very expensive city to live in. So I'm going to give up the goods on free to low cost events that take place during the Summer in the Big Apple. From theatre to live music, poetry to dance performances, parades to outdoor movies, etc. I have broken down my list between ongoing Summer events and a few not to be missed one time Summer events.
Ongoing Summer events...
Bryant Park in Manhattan has alot going on. Their events run throughout the Summer.

Central Park's Annual Summer Stage runs from around mid-June to late mid-August. Check them out at http://www.summerstage.org/ to see their schedule of events that range from internationally renowned dance companies to live music acts from various genres as well as book readings and movie screenings. New York City's Hudson River Festival runs from mid-June until the end of August. Prospect Park's Annual Celebrate Brooklyn runs from around mid-June to early August. So if you live in one of the 5 beautiful boroughs of New York City, or will be a tourist visiting, there's no reason not to enjoy the Summer fun in the Big Apple. No matter what your economic situation looks like or what your tastes are, you'll be sure to find alot of cool events to attend on the hot Summer days that New York City is infamous for.
