Parked upon a city street---the windows rolled way down,
I heard and felt surrounded by the many varied sounds:
The mournful coo-coo-cooing of a lonely turtle dove,
A cheery mix of chirping from tree limbs high up above.
The whoosh and backwind flutter of some cars as they did pass,
The vroom-vroom and vibrations of a lawnmower cutting grass.
The rhythmic pitter-patter from a sweaty jogger’s feet,
The hassling of the jogger’s dog amidst the summer’s heat.
The slamming of a car door and the tooting of a horn,
Again the sole dove’s cooing (sounding eerie and forlorn).
Accelerating engines of more cars along the way,
A wind chime’s simple concert brightens up this doleful day.
The barking of a playful dog and voices calling out,
A rustling of the leaves---the wind was tossing them about.
The world abounds with poetry---make sure you pay attention;
And then you’ll find a gloomy day turned into one that glistens!
