Fate is like a shy girl that whispers in your ear.
She does not give up her position, nor her intention,
Though the chord of her voice is sweetness
And she giggles with light mischief as she takes your hand.
There was delight in her eye when I looked at you,
There was spice on her breath when I said your name,
I swear I heard the music of her intention when she shown me to you
And dared me to walk through the looking glass
Where the light was zigzagged and smelt of musked wood.
That light that was heavy with perfume, saturated with heat,
And when you came close to me that light was in my eyes
And I felt you sting me and I felt her push me towards you,
You, who are my fate.

Cindy Rodríguez is 30 and newly married. She has been writing poetry since gradeschool but never really took herself too seriously, always considering it a form of expression and therapy for exploding emotions. She is comfortable in the clandestine world of poetry, thinking it appropriate for her sometimes unusual thought processes, and feels a sense of belonging when allowed to think in abstract terms. Cindy is also a budding painter with a degree in art history. You can reach her by mailing to 2643 Beaver Ave. #122, Des Moines, IA 50310
