No matter what we as parents may think, once a child is born their room is their own. The space must meet their developmental needs and transition with them easily as they grow. Involving your children in creating their environment is important in giving them ownership of the space. Their space is not only where they sleep but also where they study, socialize, read, play, and listen to music. Children, today, are more aware than ever before of style. They want a room that "rocks."

Recognize, too, though that you and/or your designer will need to make the big decisions. Let your child be involved in color selection, how different spaces are used, and "theme" if any. They may be aware of style but may not know how to execute that style. Before you start a space have them draw what they would like, pull out magazine pages, etc. so there are lots of ideas to help guide the space. Dreams Alive Magazine Updates and Opportunities

Updates:

• We had previously announced that Dreams Alive Magazine would be released monthly, starting with January 2005, but our desire to release an issue of Dreams Alive Magazine each month does not currently agree with our capacity to do so. The primary reason for wanting an issue each month was for the purpose of creating a more consistent presence and to eliminate the 3 month gaps between the spring-summer and summer-autumn issues.
   
• Our new solution...and we will stick with this...is an issue every two months as follows, 1/15 - Winter, 3-15 Spring, 5-15 Summer, 7-15 Vacation, 9-15 Autumn and 11-15 Christmas. This adds 1 issue per year and eliminates the 3 month gaps that did not sit well with us. We have already updated our submission and advertising pages accordingly.

Opportunities:

• One aspect of our magazine that often includes massive searching and time consuming modifications, is the selection and creation of our magazine cover. Since the cover is a large image, many of the images submitted to us along with articles, cannot be considered.
• At this time, we would like to encourage artists and photographers to select or create images that would be great for use as our cover and send them to us for review. Each approved and used image would include an acknowledgement and link back to the authors website or e-mail address. Since our magazine is released seasonally, we generally search for indoor, outdoor or creative abstracts of each season. You will be welcome to send as many selections as you desire, providing they follow the guidelines below
  • The image must be at least 750 pixels wide and 900 pixels tall, without having been stretched to that size. Clarity is important.
  • Since our magazine title and main topics exist on the left side of the cover, it's best if that area is not "busy" to the point where it is difficult to read. If you look at most of our cover images, you will see what we mean.
  • For images that are of different dimensions, your images will be cropped, not stretched to fit. Also, for images that are much larger than needed, we will proportionally resize them to the proper size and then crop as necessary.
  • Send all submissions in jpg, bmp, psp or tif format. If you do use JPG, do not compress more than 15%.
