Freedom is the Key
From sea to shining sea
God’s gift, the Almighty
Freedom is the Key

What we’ve been given, we must share
With other peoples over there
The cost too high, some would declare
But Freedom is the Key

We take for granted how we’ve been blest
Complain ‘n’ bicker from East to West
Make no mistake, this is our Test
And Freedom is the Key

Stand firm, stand true, we must not fail
We’d just as soon as rend the veil
Than pull out now, retreat pell-mell
’Cause Freedom is the Key

Blinded eyes now cannot see
The sacred base of Liberty
These planted seeds will one day be
For Freedom is the Key

Church E. Modlin, Jr. grew up on a farm in rural Eastern North Carolina. He works as an accountant/CPA but has always desired to become a writer. He has dabbled in poetry and letters-to-the-editor for some time and has recently become more serious about his writing and would like to become established through reputable periodicals leading to possible publication in book form. His poetry spans from light and comical to somewhat serious, including political, family, and religious themes.
